Cabbage Thoran

cabbage-carrot-thoran1Cabbage itself is a healthy food with lots of nutrients, but sometimes children don’t like to eat cabbage. So try this tasty recipe so that you can easily convince your children as well as your other family members.


Ingredients:

Oil- 1/3 cup
Mustard seeds- 2 tsp
Potato- 2 (medium size, skin removed & chopped into small cubes)
Curry leaves- 10-12
Urad dal- 1 tsp
Turmeric- 1 tsp
Green chilli- 2 (chopped halved lengthwise)
Onion- 1 (minced)
Cabbage- 1 pound (shredded finely)
Coconut (freshly grated)- 1 ¾
Salt- As per taste
Pepper- According to taste
Green chillies (for garnishing)- 3-4

Direction:

Take a frying pan & heat oil on medium heat.
Pour the potatoes & fry them till they turn golden in colour.
Now remove from the pan & place on a paper towel.
Now pour the left over oil in the same frying pan & add the mustard seeds.
When it almost starts to crackle pour the curry leaves along with the urad dal.
Stir well & let it fry for 2-3 minutes (until the dal becomes golden in colour).
Pour the chillies along with the onions & allow it to cook for almost 6-7 minutes.
Now add the shredded cabbage along with the turmeric powder, pepper & salt.
Stir well to mix all the ingredients properly.
Pour as much water as required to boil the cabbage or you can boil the cabbage separately at the beginning & keep them aside.
Cover the top & let it cook for almost 15-20 minutes (till the cabbages are tender).
Pour half of the coconut along with the fried potatoes.
Stir well & cook it for 2-3 minutes.
Remove from the heat & place in a serving dish.
Decorate with green chilli along with the leftover grated coconut & serve hot.
