Peanuts & Its Benefits

peanut1Peanuts are also quite commonly known by several local names like- monkey nuts, earthnuts, goober peas etc. It’s also known as groundnuts. It comes from Fabaceae family. Various benefits of peanuts are follows:

  • It has the potential to provide energy to your body because of its protein source. This source of resveratrol also contains anti aging properties.
  • Peanuts are also rich sources of antioxidants which are able to lower the chances of coronary diseases. This fiber containing nuts are also quite beneficial for colon cancer.
  • It is also found to be useful for the health of your bones, because of its high calcium source.
  • Peanut is an outstanding supplier of monounsaturated fats, which are identified to be quite effective for keeping your heart healthy as well as is helpful in lowering the chances of cardiovascular ailments.
  • It’s also able to provide protection to your heart when deficiency of oxygen arises, because of its Coenzyme Q10.
  • It also found to be useful for the health of your bones, because of its high calcium source.

Things to remember:

  • Sometimes there are moulds in peanuts and they can also suffer from a fungus infection, the fungus being called Aspergillus flavus. A poison called aflatoxin is produced by it which is found to be carcinogenic. It can be an important factor for mental retardation. It is about twenty times more dangerous than DDT.
  • For some people peanuts can lead to allergic reactions.
  • People suffering from kidney problems or gall bladder ailments can face problems because of its oxalates source.

Peanut Dry Curry

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp- Mustard
  • 1 cup- Peanuts
  • Salt- As per taste
  • ½ tsp-Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp -Coconut
  • 2- Red Chilli
  • 4-5 – Curry Leaves
  • ¼ tsp-Asafoetida /Hing
  • 1 tbsp- Unripe mango (grated)

Direction:

  • Take a pressure cooker & steam these peanuts along with the turmeric powder.
  • Allow it to steam for 2-3 whistles & then drain them properly.
  • Take a Chinese wok or kadai & heat oil over the medium temperature.
  • Pour mustard seeds & let it crackle.
  • Now add the curry leaves along with the hing & red chillies.
  • Reduce the heat & let it fry for almost 30-35 seconds.
  • Pour the peanuts & stir well to mix properly.
  • Allow it to sauté for 3-4 minutes & remove from the heat.
  • Before serving add the coconut along with mango (grated).
